The revamp archive

It's not secret that I like to revamp this website whenever I get bored or just on a whim. This version is actually the ninth revamp. There have been so many versions that I even forgot about some.

I tried to get these screenshots as intact as possible, but it didn't happen completely. Some things are missing and some have been rebuilt a little bit, but are very accurate representations of my older (and mostly embarassing) designs. Also, I've deleted most of the content from the screenshots, since it was often more embarassing than the actual design.

version 1: circa september 2002

Version 1

It was a bit of a rough beginning. I hadn't made very many web pages prior to this, and web standards weren't quite what they are today, resulting in a lot of ugly pages like this one.

Of note is the title image. The original was a drawing on lined paper when I was supposed to be paying attention in some class or another. From there, I made it in ASCII in Notepad, and connected the lines together in PaintShop Pro 5. Handy messed around with it in PhotoShop and we added the sweet cloud effects, heh.

version 2: circa november 2002

Version 1

Ugh... frames. This one looks like Windows 3.1 more than anything. I have to say this was probably the most embarassing content that I deleted from the main window there out of all of the items listed here.

Version 3: circa february 2003

Version 1

I was really big on the white-on-red theme at this time. I'm surprised nobody's eyes started to bleed while using this one. The menu was made pixel-by-pixel in PaintShop Pro 5.

Version 4: circa early october 2003

Version 1

This one... has some purple in it. This was basically a pallete-shift of an information website I was making, but it was green and actually looked a lot better. I was not a big fan of this one, hence the rapid revamp.

version 5: circa late october 2003

Version 1

Well, you can't say I didn't try. This is about the time that web standards began their shift towards what they are now, and this was my attempt to follow along. Note to past self: anti-aliasing is our friend.

version 6: circa january 2004

Version 1

I'm kind of upset that I can't find a picture of this one. It wasn't bad at all. Strangely enough it was based on the Pontiac Aztek, one of the ugliest vehicles in existence. Basically I used the rear window as the top left corner and made a spot for the title image and a menu from the source image.

version 7: circa august 2004

Version 1

This is about the time I started to hone my HTML skills. The images were rollover, which was a pretty hip technology at the time. This is one of the few designs that I didn't end up completely hating.

version 8: circa june 2007

Version 1

The long gap in there was due to the Marine Corps. This was the first revamp that started as a template and was heavily modified with HTML know-how and my new favorite tool, Dreamweaver CS3.

verison red: 19 april 2008

Version 1

I actually did very little work in this revamp thanks to Dreamweaver CS3 and CSS. Pretty happy with it: it's simple, fast loading, and easy on the eyes.
